EXIF data (Exchangeable Image File Format)

Digital cameras store with each photograph particular “EXIF data,” technical information about the photograph that is not visible in the image area of the photo but can be easily accessed later for reference.

This data can provide a record of the time the photograph was recorded; the location where the photograph was recorded; numerous camera settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc.); and the make/model/operating system of the camera or device, among other things.
